Senior Manager
My interview experience with ImmunoGen was pretty rough, honestly, one of the worst in my 15 years in Pharma/Biotech. The initial phone screen with the hiring manager was great; we really clicked and she liked my background. I thought I'd found my dream job with a title and salary bump, but it turned out to be too good to be true. I was three minutes late for the actual interview because I got lost in an unfamiliar industrial park. While I know being late is bad, I felt like they judged me solely on that. I left feeling positive, but the next morning the recruiter asked how much I was willing to compromise for the job. Apparently, those three minutes outweighed my years of experience. They asked me to come back to prove I could be on time, and they changed the offer from full-time to contract-to-perm. I accepted the contract-to-perm offer, excited about the opportunity. However, when HR emailed about the start date, I responded a few hours later (around 11 am) to schedule a call. The next day, the recruiter called to say the hiring manager felt insulted by my delayed response and they were rescinding the offer entirely. It was completely unprofessional, and frankly, it showed me it's not a company I'd want to work for.

Recruiter
First, an agency reached out to me. I did an initial in-person interview with them for vetting. Then, they set up a first round in-office interview with the hiring manager at ImmunoGen. I met with two members of the recruiting team. We sat in their offices, 1:1, for 45 minutes each. We started with pleasantries and went over work histories. I had plenty of time to ask questions and inquire about career paths, company history, leadership intentions, and future roles. They answered my questions frankly, highlighting both the company's strengths and areas for improvement.

Research Scientist
I was contacted by a recruiter for the company, we met on LinkedIn. He told me about the position. After that, I had a phone interview with HR, then with the hiring manager. A week later, I had an all-day interview that included a presentation and lunch with the team. I met with the hiring manager, the team lead, RAs, and some other scientists. It was a good overview of the team and what a new hire would go through. I think the company was also interviewed by me. Then I waited. I could ask for updates on my application status, which I appreciated. I got the offer one month after the interview. I couldn't negotiate the package.
- Can you describe your background?
- What techniques have you used?
- What is your expertise?
Research Associate
The interview process involved two phone screens followed by an onsite interview that spanned from morning to afternoon. Lunch was provided during the onsite. A significant emphasis was placed on teamwork capabilities. While the overall interview experience was positive, there was a lack of communication regarding the timeline for an offer. I followed up in December and was informed I was still being considered. It's been about two months, and I've accepted another position, so I'm assuming I didn't get this role.
