First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at IMC Trading.
Intern
It was a mixed interview, covering market making games, mental maths, and some statistics questions like Bayes' theorem. They also asked motivational questions about why I'm interested in trading and IMC.
- How many cats are there in Japan?
- Can you explain Bayes' Theorem?
- What motivates your interest in trading?
Internship
Applied with my CV, then did some online tests. Next was a HireVue video interview where I had to answer 2 questions: one technical and one simple motivation question. After that, I had an interview with HR, which involved a basic HR conversation, followed by a couple of brainteasers and estimation questions. The interviewer was friendly and I got feedback pretty quickly.
- What makes you want to work in trading?
- Technical question
- Simple motivation question
Summer Intern
The application process involves several steps after initial resume and cover letter review. First, there's an online skills assessment with mini-games to gauge strengths, weaknesses, and suitability. This is followed by a short online interview where you solve basic problems quickly and answer questions about your interests and expectations. The next, more challenging part is an online Q&A covering finance knowledge, specifically market maker operations, and logic/math problems. They look for speed, precision, and quick error correction. The process continues with at least two more examiner panels.
- After estimating the number of triangles in a given figure, play a trading game.
- Can you estimate the number of possible triangles in this figure and then play a trading game?
