First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Imagination Publishing.
Content Director
They set up multiple onsite interviews. I met with one person, then came back another day to meet with another person for an hour. Then they asked if I could come back in two days to meet with a third person. It felt very disorganized. Then they asked me to develop an in-depth strategy for one of their clients and present it. Before the presentation, I had to email the strategy to them. They expect all employees to be in the office Monday through Friday, with the only exception being if you have kids and need to leave early for their sports practices.
- How would you handle a situation where one employee has a better relationship with the team than another, impacting shared resources?
- Could you prepare and present a strategy presentation for one of our clients?

The interview process felt pretty intense. It was broken down into five stages: a personality test, a phone interview, an in-person interview, an editing test, and then a final in-person interview. The phone interview was pretty good. The first in-person interview went okay, although I did meet with five people at once, which might be a bit much for some. Then came the editing test. It had four sections and I had four days to finish it. Honestly, at that point, with 10 years of experience, if I didn't pass this huge test, I wasn't sure I wanted to work there. I get wanting to find the right person, but it all felt like a lot.

SEO Manager
I was already familiar with the company from my contract work here, so they knew me and my work. Before I got the offer, I went through two interview rounds. After a couple of weeks of contracting, I met with their HR assistant for an initial screening. About two weeks later, I returned for interviews with the department head and the head of HR. Since they already knew me, the interviews were less about my background and more about diagnosing their issues. Just a heads-up, the HR department is small (only one person), so the process can take quite a while.
- Tell me about a project that failed and what you would do differently next time.
Art Director
The hiring process started with a preliminary chat with the Head of Talent. They asked typical HR questions like "How do you prefer to be managed" and about my "Future Goals". The person knew a lot about the role. Then, I was invited back to meet with the head of design/VP and some other design folks. We went over my resume, and I talked about my experience and what the job needed. After that, I showed my portfolio and answered more questions, such as "What can you do for us" and "What do you want out of the position". It was a really thorough interview where I had to really sell myself and show my potential.
- Can you tell me about your weaknesses?
