First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at IKEA.
Warehouse Associate
There were two interviews: first, an HR chat to see if your values align with theirs, and second, a talk with the hiring manager. Both had standard interview questions, but the hiring manager asked more about your work style and if you meet their requirements.
- In five years, where do you envision yourself being?
- How do your personal values align with those of our company?
- Describe your typical performance and work habits.
Warehouse Worker
Started with a detailed online application, submitting a CV and cover letter. Then, I was invited to a solo video interview where I answered questions by myself, which felt very impersonal. Following that, I was invited for an in-person interview, which was shockingly bad. I was asked a lot of personal questions, and then they suggested I look into their “womens” team that handles much lighter goods. Even though the job posting mentioned training for a forklift, I was told not to apply for any warehouse positions without first getting one myself. This location and the team leader didn't seem to align with the Ikea values the brand portrays.
- Do you plan on having children?
- When do you plan on having children?
- Are you able to have children?
Warehouse Worker
I was given several time slot options by email. I arrived 10 minutes early and a manager met me. We went to a meeting room. I had applied for two similar job roles. I first interviewed for a forklift position, but the hours didn't fit my lifestyle. The manager then suggested a very similar role that matched my previous experience. We proceeded with questions. Afterward, he gave me a brief tour of my potential workspace and duties. I asked multiple questions about the job and responsibilities. He answered them all quickly and thoroughly. He stated the interview was concluded and asked if I had any further questions. He then provided a rough timeline for their decision. We shook hands, thanked each other, and departed. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience, the open communication, and the swift responses from everyone involved.
- Can you share an instance where you exceeded expectations in a previous role?
