I applied for this position through the Temporary Job portal SRIC at the IIT Kharagpur site. The initial screening was based on my qualifications (B.Tech/M.Tech) and GATE score. After that, I was called for an interview, which took place at IIT Kharagpur.

So there was this walk-in interview, and it started with like 20+ people. They split us up based on whether we were applying for JRF/SRF positions or Project Assistant roles. Then, both groups got a paper with 5 project-related questions to answer in 40 minutes. The Project Assistants went first, and then they called in the JRF/SRF folks. The questions for us were pretty basic. I think I might have messed up some, but the Professor who wanted me for the role, which honestly makes a big difference, asked me about my background research on the project and if I could stay overnight in the lab. I said yes to both. I got the offer about 2.5 to 3 weeks later.
