First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at IIR USA.
Sales Executive
The interview process was great. Everyone I met, including the CEO, was professional and engaging. They asked insightful questions, showing they know what they're looking for. I had about 4 interviews, with two involving multiple people. I had a Skype call with the CEO and a Managing Director at the end. The office had a positive vibe, and everyone greeted me. This company is growing beyond just events. I'm confident they'll gain many new clients if they stick to their current plans. Their events are well-known and high quality. The interview process took 2-3 weeks and was moderately to difficult due to a written portion that required significant preparation. They referenced my answers from the written portion in the follow-up interview, which I appreciated.
- Can you share an example of a new concept or program you introduced to an event and describe its success?
Director of Digital Marketing
I received a call from the HR Director who asked me some questions about my background and experience. A couple of days later, I was invited for an in-person interview at 8:30 AM. I met with the Director of HR, who initially seemed friendly but then began questioning my CV, finding it confusing. After I clarified some points on my CV, it became apparent she hadn't read it thoroughly. Following more questions about my experience, she concluded I was "very technical." I explained that digital marketing requires a deep technical understanding of the marketing process for calculating analytics and ROI, but she didn't seem to grasp this. She expressed interest in bringing me back, suggesting there was a suitable position, but I declined.
- Have I stayed at any job for more than 1.5 years?
Marketing Communications Manager
I initially interviewed for a Telesales role but realized I was overqualified. The first step was an HR rep meeting where I asked about the company culture. She mentioned it was a shy culture with poor employee relationships, though she was working on improving it. This was a major concern for me due to my friendly nature. Next, I met my potential direct supervisor, who was very pleasant. The telesales job seemed straightforward. I declined moving forward for that role and was instead invited to interview for a newly created Marketing Communications Manager position. This role involved building the position from scratch. However, I couldn't connect with the hiring manager for this role; she seemed cold and dismissed my sales experience, particularly my on-the-spot sales background. I felt my ability to close $50k in an hour should translate well to their consultative sales model. I didn't receive a callback for the marketing role and got a standard rejection, which I expected and am actually glad about, as I feel it would have been a poor fit. After multiple interviews, I observed that most employees appeared unhappy with their jobs and work-life balance, despite being professional and courteous. The office atmosphere on a Friday afternoon was unusually quiet and seemingly disengaged. I wouldn't recommend this company if work culture is a priority, but the Telesales position might be suitable if you're looking for an easy role.
- Basic questions about sales experience.
Senior Executive
I was contacted by a recruiter about a great opportunity. I had a phone interview with the recruiter. She then presented my credentials to the hiring manager, who I think was the CEO, and they scheduled me for an in-person interview two weeks out, but they weren't sure if it would be at their office or nearby. About a week before, I contacted the recruiter to confirm the location. I got a strange response that they might have overbooked candidates and she'd know more the next day. No word the next day. So, 48 hours before the interview, I contacted the recruiter again and was told they were still narrowing down the list and I'd hear back by 8 that night. Lots of smoke and mirrors. At 8 PM, I got an email from the recruiter saying they decided not to interview me. They didn't have the leeway (whatever that means) to speak with everyone they thought they could. This place seems very bush league, Mickey Mouse, and unprofessional. I read the employee reviews, and it sounds terrible. If this is how they treat people externally, I don't want to be part of it.
