Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ifm efector.
Sales Engineer
First interview was a standard vetting by HR. It was pretty easy, just be polite and advocate for yourself. Ask questions to show enthusiasm. After the interview, I advanced to the next round, the Bennett mechanical aptitude test. Practice tests are available online. I aced the mechanical test and moved on to the Caliper personality test round. I did not pass the personality test, and then I GOT GHOSTED BY THE HIRING TEAM. Through reddit research, I concluded that my personality test indicated I'm not "coachable," and that's why I'm no longer a candidate. My advice: don't show empathy/feelings/sympathy on the personality test, or they will ghost you.
- Tell me about a time you had to disappoint or let down an employer.
Sales Engineer
First, you'll talk to HR. Then, you'll take a mechanical aptitude test and a personality test to see if you're a good fit. If you pass these and are selected, you'll have a second interview, followed by role-playing. After that, you'll travel to the PA office to meet with leadership and interview there. You should know if they'll offer you the job after this. It's a thorough process that lasts 3-4 weeks to find the right candidate.
- Can you share an instance where you exceeded the typical requirements of your role?
Sales Engineer
So you don't actually get hired as a Sales Engineer straight away. They want you to start as a sales development rep first to get familiar with their sales process. After that, you can be promoted to sales. The process involves a web interview with HR, then some knowledge/personality assessments, followed by a web interview with the manager, and lastly, an in-person interview at their Malvern office. I interviewed with HR and completed the assessments but was denied. The denial was super informal, like my resume was just skimmed by software. I already put in 3 hours and got no feedback on why I didn't fit. Any company that demands this much from candidates and doesn't offer transparency, especially when they're not offering the advertised role upfront, should be scrutinized.
- Tell me about a time you let someone down.
