Medical Science Liaison
I interviewed with Marc for a Western Canada based MSL role. He spent most of the 30-minute interview talking about himself, and his webcam was misaligned so his face wasn’t in view. He asked me what I enjoy most about my current role. I told him I liked that customers come back telling me how much they love our product. He said that wasn’t what he was looking for and that I should say I enjoy pushing back and challenging people. He was rude and dismissive, and didn’t ask about my experience. I think he is a bad people leader.
- What aspects of your current role do you find most rewarding, and are you more drawn to the satisfaction of positive customer feedback or the challenge of overcoming objections?
Operations
I interviewed as a contractor for this Operations role. There were 3 steps: first, I spoke with the hiring manager. Then, I met with 4 or 5 managers. Finally, I had a meeting with the team. It was a nice conversation with very knowledgeable people. They asked about my background, qualifications, and experiences. They also shared their experience and background with me. They were very nice people.
- Could you please introduce yourself and explain your motivation for applying to this role?
Research Technician
Submitted my CV through their website and had a brief Teams call with a recruiter to check my qualifications. Then had a longer interview with the hiring manager where they asked about my thesis experience and how it relates to process chemistry, along with some technical questions about the field. The interviewer seemed a bit disappointed at the end but was polite. The recruiter kept me updated on each step (interview scheduled, offer, rejection) promptly. I also got a salary estimate. The whole thing took about two weeks.
- What are your long-term career aspirations over the next five years?
Data Scientist
The first interview was online with the hiring manager. They wanted to hear about my past experience and what motivates me. The hiring manager also talked about the job, the company, the department, and the team. The second interview was a full day in person. I had to present my background and past projects to the team and answer their questions. After that, I had several one-on-one meetings with team members and HR. The third interview was also a full day in person. They gave me a hypothetical case about drug discovery and asked me to come up with an experimental design, suggest omics to use, and explain the mechanism of action. Then, I had several interviews with senior people from other departments who I'd be working with.
