Interaction Designer
I had a couple of chats with HR people, then met with a designer, and finally talked to two director-level designers. It was pretty laid-back. I had to present some of my projects, talking about my process, what I achieved, and what the next steps were. The interviews were spread out quite a bit, and it was hard to gauge their thoughts. Everything seemed okay, but I didn't get the offer. They did send a nice note encouraging me to reapply in 6-12 months.
- Can you walk me through the research methods you've employed?
Interaction Designer
So an HR person reached out, and then I went in for what they said was an informal chat. It ended up being a portfolio discussion. They didn't even get a room, the whole thing was in a noisy shared space with people around. They didn't introduce themselves or say what they do, and just smiled at others, not really paying attention to me. They actually asked me the same things twice because they weren't listening. Pretty bad way to interview, especially for a company like this. And nobody even got back to me afterwards, which is a shame since I put time and effort into it. Seriously, stop acting like you're saving the world and learn how to interview people, it was actually embarrassing for you.
- Can you walk me through a recent project you worked on?
- What was your specific contribution to that project?
- Could you describe the team dynamics during that project?
Interaction Designer
The interview process and focus can vary slightly between teams and even for the same role. There are typically 3 to 4 mandatory interview rounds, plus possibly more. You'll go through the standard interview questions and portfolio reviews if they are relevant. The interview itself was quite smooth, feeling more like a casual chat than a formal interview. They really care about understanding the design process and rationale behind your work.
- Can you describe a project you worked on and explain your specific contribution to it?
