Gameplay Programmer
My first contact was with someone who asked if I would be willing to do a programming test within 48 hours. There was no recruiter chat or anything before that to ask about the job. The test is basically your only way in. I said yes and did the test. I passed it and got to round 2, but then they dropped the bomb that the job required relocation. This wasn't in the original job ad, by the way. I had to back out because I can't move. Their recruiting process is pretty messed up, telling me about this requirement only after I'd already done the test.
- Are you willing to complete a programming test?
QA Tester
After being let into the conference room by the receptionist, a team member came in and asked me some basic questions about my experience, understanding of the role, future goals, and why I applied. Then, two members from the QA department came in and asked more specific questions about the logistics of being a tester, though they were similar to the previous questions. After the interview, I was led out and told I'd hear back within two weeks.
- What would you do if you found something while testing that needed to be fixed and reported, but the developers came back and said there was no issue?
Lead Multiplayer Designer
The interview process began with a recruiter call to get my foot in the door. This was followed by a phone interview. If you pass the phone interview, there might be a skill test (level test). After that, they bring you to Dallas for the on-site interview. You'll meet with studio management, and likely Marty one-on-one. The rest of the day involves interviews with small groups representing different disciplines, like engineers, designers, and producers. The day concludes with a tour, a product showcase under NDA, and an opportunity to ask questions. It's a pretty standard industry interview process overall.
- What are the biggest hurdles for FPS multiplayer currently?
- Regarding your previous role/project, what were the best processes and which of those would be beneficial to continue here?
- Regarding your previous role/project, what were the worst processes and which of those would be beneficial to continue here?
Human Resources Assistant
I got an email about 2 weeks after applying to set up an interview and I had to pick one of three dates. I replied the next day and got a confirmation email that night, with an apology for the late reply. The interview call itself was a bit late. The manager seemed rushed during the interview, saying she needed to get back to work and wanted to keep it to 30 minutes. She cut me off when I was talking about one of my past jobs while looking at my resume. I barely got to ask any questions, maybe two. They were basic interview questions. I sent a follow-up email but haven't heard back.
- Can you give me three words that describe you?
- What's a quote or motto you live by?
