Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ID.me.
Senior Recruiter
The interviewer was super uninterested and barely gave any details about the company or the job. After the first interview, I had to take a Wonderlic test, which they claim measures cognitive ability but honestly has nothing to do with how well you actually do the job. On top of that long, pointless test, they then made me find potential candidates online for their open roles. It felt like they were trying to get free recruiting work out of me by having me identify good people and then write a fake email to them. It really seemed like they were offloading their actual job duties onto the candidates, and the whole thing felt way too intrusive and unprofessional.

Recruiter
So, a recruiter hit me up about a job, and the first thing I had to do was this long intelligence and personality test, the Wonderlic. It took about an hour. They also asked if I was talking to other companies. After I passed that, they gave me a phone interview, which was short, like 20 minutes. Then came two writing prompts, and they didn't really say how long or what format they wanted. I just wrote about 250 words for each and sent them in as a PDF. It was a bit of a bummer to do that big test and then have such a quick call, but the person was nice, and I wish them luck.
- Were you ever directly employed by a staffing agency?
Technical Recruiter
I was really drawn to this startup because of their work in a new field with room to grow and a good culture. I've worked in this area for a while, so I thought I knew what to expect, but the interview process here was surprisingly unprofessional and disorganized, even for a startup. I spent five hours interviewing with different people, going through behavioral questions. Afterward, the head of recruiting gave me a soft offer, discussing the role, pay, and start date. I was told I'd get an offer letter the next morning after final CEO approval, which they said was a formality. But the next afternoon, they called to say the executive team rejected me due to a lack of seniority and technical skills. This was a big disappointment, especially during a pandemic, and it felt disrespectful. They never asked about my technical skills or career achievements, and one interviewer even said they were 'agnostic to specific skill sets' and just wanted the 'next best candidate.' I saw a lot of potential here, so it was a letdown to be treated this way. I hope they improve their candidate experience as they mature.
- Can you describe your experience and background?
- What do you consider to be your main professional strengths and weaknesses?
- Can you share an example of a difficult recruitment situation you encountered and how you managed it?
