Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ICON.
Analyst
The interview process included an HR screening where they asked about my background, experience, and if I'd be a good cultural fit. Then we talked about what the role expects, my communication skills, and if I'm generally a good fit. It started with an HR screening, then a role-specific interview to check my technical skills and experience, and a final interview to see if I fit in and am suitable overall.

I had an on-campus interview first, then a half-day final round interview in North Wales, PA. They didn't reimburse for local travel, even though it was an hour train ride each way from Philadelphia. A week later, they emailed to ask if I would need future work visa sponsorship. The next day, they emailed to say they don't hire international students and therefore couldn't make an offer, apologizing for not addressing this sooner. They could have saved me a lot of time and effort. A friend who is also an international student had his final round interview cancelled the same day because they don't sponsor international students. It seems very disorganized. It's surprising the interview coordinator didn't ask or check this before offering interviews or during the first round.
- Could you provide a pricing for a preventative drug?

I got an email from the recruiter about two months after applying. A few days later, I had a phone interview with the recruiter, which was more of a screening. She was very nice. Then, I was set up for an onsite interview with the director and a peer. It went well. The director was on video since she's overseas, but it was fine. The recruiter called me later that day to set up a second interview that included a presentation and another person. The instructions for the presentation were vague: "Give a 5 minute presentation on a challenge you might have in this position." I asked about PowerPoint and was told by the recruiter she didn't have that info, so I should just guess. The second interview didn't start well. I got soaked in the rain walking to another building. Two people were on the phone, so I was presenting at a table to a phone and one person in the room. I didn't put much effort into the PowerPoint because I figured they cared more about presentation skills than the slides themselves. When I realized I'd be sharing my desktop, I knew it was bad because they wouldn't see me, only the slides. I thought I did okay, but their reactions showed disappointment. The questions afterward went poorly, and I felt they were unfair. They'd ask questions and then seem upset I didn't know their company's specific way of doing things. They knew I lacked CRO experience (but had lots of PM experience), yet the questions seemed tough if you didn't know CRO. The recruiter called a few days later and said no offer was extended because of my presentation. I wasn't surprised. Everyone was nice, and even though I'm disappointed, I don't have any hard feelings.

- What would be a challenge you might encounter in this job?
- Can you tell us how your company does X?
