I went through two interview rounds. First was with the PI, who asked about my interest in the lab, my future plans, and my relevant background. Then, I had a more informal chat with the lab manager. The next day, they made me an offer! Keep in mind, hiring processes can differ between labs.

The interview process started with a Zoom call which went well and I was offered the job straight away. Things got complicated during the background check. The recruiter didn't mention that I shouldn't include jobs not paid by direct deposit. I didn't think twice about it since my resume worked for other jobs where they could verify my previous employment. However, Mount Sinai rescinded my offer because they couldn't verify a job I had in 2016, even though I had proof I worked there. Communication was really bad; I had to constantly text and call for updates, and they would only reply days or even a week later. It took 2 months of getting the run around. This whole experience made me realize they might not be the most organized company.
