A recruiter reached out after seeing my resume and gave me a call to confirm a few details. Next, I was given a written test to check my editing skills. The whole process was straightforward and the recruiter was helpful. I felt good about how I did on the test. When the interview happened, it was clear the interviewers thought I was applying for a different job. It didn't go well, and it was frustrating to realize so much time had been wasted. If there hadn't been that misunderstanding, I would have been happy to work there.

I applied for an entry-level reporter job. First, I had a lengthy writing test that took several hours. After I passed the test, I was invited in for interviews. The whole thing was a disorganized mess at their rundown office. I thought I'd meet the editor first since he was my contact, but I met the EIC instead. He barely looked at my resume and asked me questions way too tough for an entry-level role, making me think they didn't know what they were hiring for. I tried to ask him questions, but he cut me off. Then I met the editor, who basically said I needed more experience and this was turning into an informational interview. To top it off, I had two more unexpected meetings with other editors.

It was a tough interview process. I spoke with six different people over two hours. The questions varied from simple to very detailed. Most questions were direct, but the editor-in-chief made his part of the interview feel really hard, uncomfortable, and intense. If you like being bullied and feeling like you're not valued, this is the place for you.

Applied through LinkedIn. About 10 days later, I got a call for a phone interview. After that, I had to send in 10 story ideas. Then, I had an in-person interview with the editor in chief and managing editor. Got the offer about three days after that.
