It was a 2 stage interview process. First was a telephone interview with HR. The second interview was with the warehouse manager. The interviewers were friendly and spoke French. They asked questions about my previous experience, my life, and the company. They also shared a lot of information about the job and the benefits.

This was a positive interview experience overall, but some things made me question the management style. First, the job post mentioned 'strategic vision,' but when I asked why they do things, the answer was just 'because the owners have ideas.' It felt like a vague, money-driven approach with no real strategy, and it's not fair to expect strategy from a candidate. They talked about cool inventions and big money, but there's no training or development for you, so the money doesn't help you grow professionally. They also offered a 'collaborative environment,' but what they meant was you'd be working mostly alone on projects, with limited chances to talk to colleagues. They also said obvious things like 'we engage in projects to deliver,' which is redundant and could mean you'll be blamed if things don't work out as the manager expects. They also kept repeating that the manager doesn't take no for an answer, suggesting critical thinking isn't really valued and they might just want someone like the manager. Finally, while they asked for specific experience, they also threw in random questions about electrochemistry, inorganic chemistry, and theoretical engineering topics. They can ask what they want, but it's odd since they claim to want practical experience, and no one remembers all the theoretical stuff, even if they use it daily. So, if your mental health is more important than money, dig deeper into questions that reveal these aspects.

Applied and heard back in about a week. Interviewed a few days after that. Showed up for the interview but had to wait 30 mins for the VP. The VP didn't show, but the Sales Manager did, and he was cool. Had to go back the next week to interview with the VP. The VP mentioned it usually takes 6-12 months to really get the business down to make good money on commissions. Was expecting an offer in a few days, but it took 2 weeks. I turned down the offer because the base pay was really low at $32K and they wouldn't budge on it, even though it seemed like they might.

The interview process felt like a long drag with questions in one level, and the manager in the second level wasn't that great. Employers really need to realize the hiring process is broken. Post jobs that make sense and treat candidates like talent, not just job seekers. Cut the hiring process by 50% or 60%, be welcoming, informative, and supportive. Make candidates feel wanted and appreciated, not like strangers being asked why they're there. There was no appreciation for our time and interest, and no urgency.
