& Process

I had a 30-minute recruiter call where they asked standard questions and gave a quick background on the company and role. Then, I had an onsite interview with the plant manager and two other engineers. The questions were mostly about my experience and behavioral questions. Everyone was nice and the tour was interesting.

A recruiter reached out to me online about the TS&D Chemist position, which had been open for about 6 weeks, and asked to pass my info to HR. The next day, I had a pretty laid-back phone interview with someone from HR where we discussed my resume and I got to ask my own questions. The onsite interview was, honestly, a mess. It was really disorganized on Hydrite's end. I first met with three HR people who went through my resume again and asked the same questions I'd already answered. They didn't know which department was hiring a chemist or what the daily tasks would involve. The HR manager did go on about how they're a top workplace in Milwaukee and have a great culture. Then I met the Lab Manager and Executive Director. When I asked about projects, they gave vague answers. Neither had seen my resume, knew about the recruiter, or confirmed if HR had even talked to me. They were clueless about the number of applicants, who else was interviewing, or their decision timeline. The lack of communication was terrible. My recruiter had to chase them for any feedback after the interview, and a month later I got a generic rejection email. No technical questions were asked at all, which is weird since they needed someone technical for the sales-customer interface role. They also didn't offer a lab tour. For a company claiming a great culture, they didn't show it.

I got contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn and had a phone chat with her, where she gave me the lowdown on the company and the job. Then, a phone interview with the maintenance and plant managers happened, and they really dug into the job, company, and plant specifics. An onsite interview was set up and went down, plus a tour of the place. After that, I had another phone interview with someone from the central engineering group. Finally, they asked for references before they made me an offer.

First, there was a quick phone chat with the recruiter. Then, a second interview over Teams, which was pretty chill but went on longer. This second one felt a bit messy, likely because multiple people were interviewing me and were busy figuring out the internship project. All in all, it was pretty easy and everyone was respectful. No issues at all.
