First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HVS.
Analyst
There are two phone calls where you will need to analyze market data. After that, you will take an exam which includes writing about a market, some multiple-choice questions, and some short answers. The last round is with a managing director who might be abrasive to try and scare you. They do this because they have issues with people leaving quickly, so they want to filter you out.
- What are your long-term goals in hotel appraisal?
Analyst
It was a straightforward and polite interview, checking interest and presentation skills. They were more focused on cultural fit and less on technical skills for an undergraduate candidate from a relevant school. The process was relatively unstructured and the people were nice. It mainly consisted of a few rounds with senior members of the business.
- Can you tell me about the most interesting trend you've observed in the hotel industry?
Analyst
The interview process was alright, and pretty standard for the industry. However, more transparency would be good because they don't update candidates that often. They do respond, but it takes a while. The HR person was nice though, just seemed a bit busy.
- Tell me about a hypothetical situation involving properties.
