First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HVAC.
Technician
Companies sometimes start with a screening interview to see if candidates have the necessary qualifications, or they might do an open interview at a hiring event with multiple people at once. A phone interview is often used to narrow down applicants for an in-person interview, and for remote jobs, it might be the only way they interview. Some jobs require a skill assessment to test technical abilities, like a grammar test for a writing role. The first in-person interview is usually one-on-one with the hiring manager, covering your qualifications, skills, work history, and experience. The second interview gets more in-depth with a few select candidates, which could be with the same person or multiple staff members like executives or supervisors, sometimes lasting all day. A third interview is less common but might happen, where you meet current employees. You might also have a lunch or dinner interview to evaluate your etiquette and communication skills in a relaxed setting. A background check or credit check might be done at some point. If you pass, the last step is the job offer, where you'll see the terms, compensation, and benefits. You can negotiate or accept/decline by signing.
- Can you briefly introduce yourself and your background?
Estimator
It was pretty straightforward. First, there was a phone interview, followed by a written test. The test focused on soft skills and communication abilities. They also asked me to summarize my work and education history. The assessment looked at how well I'd fit into the office or site environment and if I'm open to working with diverse people from different backgrounds.
