Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Huron Valley Ambulance.
Paramedic
You'll start with a recruiter call, then a week later you'll have a panel interview along with agility and fitness testing. This includes carrying a 250 lb dummy up and down two flights of stairs on a backboard to a stretcher, then lowering and lifting the stretcher with the dummy on it. You'll also do 8 minutes of CPR, and tilt the dummy to a standing position from lying on the ground while on the backboard and back down.
- What is your favorite restaurant?
- What makes you the right candidate for this position?
- What might make you not the right candidate for this position?
Paramedic
Lots of testing involved, covering county protocols, map reading, driving skills, equipment knowledge, CPR techniques, and back boarding procedures. There was also a physical agility test. The interview itself was a panel format, consisting of supervisors, VPs, and Field Training Officers. It lasted approximately 30-45 minutes. You should be ready to discuss and answer questions about real-life scenarios.
- What kind of dog would you be and what's the reason behind your choice?
Paramedic
It started with a 1 on 1 recruiter chat to check if you're personable and professional. If you pass that, you come back another day for a 2nd interview. This includes a written test, a physical assessment (like doing CPR for 8 mins on a dummy and moving a stretcher up and down stairs), and a panel interview with the CEO and other execs where they ask basic questions.
- Can you describe what constitutes good patient care?
