Huntington Beach Union High School District Interview Questions
& Process

I applied online, then did some testing, and then had 2 rounds of panel interviews. The first panel interview had 2 people who asked me behavioral questions and recorded my answers. I was nervous but I think I did okay. My second interview had 3 people. One person asked all the questions while the other two just watched. The questions were pretty much the same as the first interview. During the second interview, one of the observers was on his computer the whole time and didn't make eye contact, which made me feel like the interview wasn't being taken seriously. At the end, the interviewer just said they had more interviews to do and I wasn't walked out. It was a really weird interview experience.

I applied online and then was asked to take tests at the district. I had to take basic math and English tests and also a teaching style test. They were easy- not something to study for unless you need to brush up on basic math. I then interviewed in front of a panel of teachers from two different schools. These teachers were calm and allowed me a few extra seconds to think about a response to a question. After that I interviewed with another teacher in a smaller room for a different school. The teacher talked about the school and the program in depth and then asked a few questions before we finished. That second interview was a lot quicker than the first one.

It was tough. A 3-person panel interviewed me. They were looking for specific answers. You need to be open-minded and calm. They know who they want and they will only ask questions. Make sure you know your responsibilities. Key things they look for are hard work, a willingness to learn, experience, approachability, attention to detail, and a readiness to go the extra mile. They won't hire someone who's just looking for a paycheck and doesn't put in the effort.

It's a 5 step interview process based on a merit system where points decide who moves forward. You start with an online application, and if you meet the qualifications, you get invited to an assessment test. After that, there's a typing test, then a panel interview with the district, and finally, an interview with the supervisor you'll work with most closely.
