& Process

I applied online and after a delay, had an initial recruiter screen about 18 days later. It was a typical intro call. Then I met with the hiring manager; the call was informal and easy to connect. Next, I met with a person in a new title for me and someone from engineering. Both calls were 30 minutes, mostly them talking about themselves. I got asked only a couple of questions in each and had about 5 minutes for my questions. A week after the fourth interview, I got a rejection that was mostly generic. They seemed unsure what they were looking for.

I talked to the Executive Recruiter first, and then a GM. They asked about my background and then posed some interesting questions that seemed to contradict themselves. They seemed to prioritize their questions and made it seem like my questions didn't matter in the process.

A manager reached out about building their team and I interviewed with them a few days later. Then I had interviews with another supervisor and two team members. I also did a writing assignment. After that, I didn't hear anything for a few weeks. I eventually spoke to the manager who said the role wasn't open anymore but they could hire me for contract work and would let me know about an offer in a week. I didn't hear anything for a couple more weeks, so I reached out and was ignored. After waiting another two weeks, I was told the role was closed. I get that companies are busy, but after 3 interviews, a writing test, and an offer for contract work, it felt like a bad way to treat people.

The interview was very friendly, easy-going, and conversational. They were really interested in learning about what I'm like outside of work and how that connects to the role, rather than just focusing on hard skills. I enjoyed speaking with everyone I interviewed with.
