First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Humane World for Animals.
Front End Engineer
I had a first round interview and that was it. No follow up after two and a half weeks, so I guess the job is off the market for me. The screener didn't seem to know my resume, the job, or be interested in my work history, other than if I'd used their CRM software, Engaging Networks (a drag and drop form/email/landing page builder like Mailchimp), and if I was willing to work for their low salary.

Program Manager
I had a phone screen with a recruiter about a month after applying online. Two weeks later, I had a first round interview with the hiring manager and a team member. Three weeks after that, I had a second round interview with two team members. An offer was made a week later. The recruiter consistently communicated with me every week or week and a half. She was very prompt with her communication when I emailed her. Everyone I met was friendly, welcoming, and easygoing.

Research Volunteer
I was in a Teams group chat with a manager and two other people who were also applying for the volunteer role. We didn't really talk much because it was more of an informational meeting. The manager spoke very fast, which made it hard to keep up. They talked about the software we'd use and the organization. The manager was nice, though. I decided not to continue with this opportunity for a few reasons. The job posting said it would be two hours a month for two months, but the manager said it would be two hours a week for two months, which is four times as much work! Also, the way the manager explained things so quickly made me feel like I wouldn't get good training or support, and that any questions would be answered just as frantically. The manager also didn't mention beforehand that it was an informational meeting, how many people would be there (I thought it might be one-on-one), what would be discussed, or if we had to be on camera. It just seemed like poor communication and they didn't seem concerned about making us feel welcome.

Director
Applied for multiple positions and was excited that my resume was good enough to be contacted for a phone interview just days after applying. The phone interview was a 'screening' with HR, with fairly informal and simple questions as opposed to specific questions about the job itself. I thought it went very well and was feeling great. I was told the next step would be a Teams interview with my potential supervisor. However, I was never contacted again. I emailed the HR person two weeks and again two months later for a status update with no response. Meanwhile, the job was still posted on the website and I had no idea what was going on internally. I finally accepted the fact that I had been ghosted, like it seems many others have, after the job posting disappeared. The interview itself was great, it's just the ghosting that makes my overall rating negative.
- Could you tell me why you're interested in working at HSUS?
- Can you describe your experience that aligns with the job qualifications?
- Are you open to travel for this role?
