Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HubSpot.
Customer Support Specialist
The interviewer and HR person were nice! But the assessment wasn't great, didn't feel like a good way to evaluate candidates. The interview involved an assessment about enumeration and lifecycle stages, plus HubSpot contact properties. We had less than 5 days to look through the CRM, and we didn't even know what specific issues we'd have to troubleshoot that day. The whole thing felt like asking someone to wander around a hospital to prepare for a test on diagnosing a rare disease.
- Would a typical customer support specialist likely know what enumeration and lifecycle stage are, or is it possible to troubleshoot without this basic knowledge?
- Was the assessment intended to gauge problem-solving or resourcefulness, or did it end up testing prior knowledge and a candidate's ability to guess under pressure, especially when needing to figure out 'enumeration' from a website line in just 10 seconds?
- Was the assessment designed to be like asking a layman to navigate a hospital and then test them on diagnosing a rare disease?
Customer Support Specialist
The interview process started with a first screen call, which was good and straightforward. Then came the second test call. The test itself seemed very easy, but I suspect they were evaluating something more specific. I managed to find one answer quickly during the phone portion of the test. For the chat portion, I couldn't find the answer in the knowledge base, but I knew it and provided it. It's possible that not finding it in writing led to a negative outcome....
- Can you simulate a chat with the test person over Zoom?
- Can you simulate a phone call with the test person using the same Zoom call?
- Explain why an import might not be working and what could be causing the failure.
Customer Support Specialist
I talked to a few managers, maybe 4 or 5 of them, and they asked me some tough questions about different situations I might encounter. They also asked a lot of questions about me personally.
- Can you describe a situation where you had to handle a challenging customer?
- Tell me about a time you made a significant impact within your organization.
- What can you tell me about yourself?
