Technical Support Specialist
I was contacted on LinkedIn by a HubSpot recruiter about a role supporting the UK/I market. After a positive initial chat, I was connected to a colleague to schedule an interview. I passed this first interview and moved on to a practical interview. Emails confirmed who would interview me, but on the day, someone else showed up. The interview felt rushed, like they'd already made a decision. I was told it was about customer handling, not system knowledge, but was grilled on system details I didn't know. I felt good about it and thought I'd get feedback within 24h as promised, but had to chase the recruiter. Finally got an email saying I didn't pass. The first interview was great, but the second interviewer seemed distracted and uninterested, making me feel like I was wasting her time. The interview was an hour, with 45-50 minutes dedicated to a practical task and talking to the interviewer as if she were the customer. This was longer than the 20-30 mins the recruiter mentioned for the task, and the interviewer only asked 3 questions, two of which were similar.
- Can you describe a challenging work situation you encountered and explain how you managed it?
Support Engineer
So I didn't actually apply for this role, I was reached out to on LinkedIn by a Hubspot recruiter since I was in an office outside of the US. They were really nice and helpful! The interview process had 4 rounds total. The first was with the recruiter, where we talked about my motivations and previous work accomplishments. Round 3 was with another manager, and the final round, round 4, was with a group of directors. The whole time, they asked questions about my knowledge of the product, the competitive market, my self-awareness, what drives me, and if I'd fit into the company culture. It really seems like Hubspot employees are enthusiastic and love to get conversations going. Some of the questions were a bit unique, like 'teach me something' or questions about Inbound Marketing, which are pretty common in tech these days, so definitely brush up on that before you interview.
- Following up on our discussion about your customer-facing experience, what aspects of that process would you modify to enhance it?
- Could you explain [insert whatever topic] to me?
Support Engineer
I sent in my application online and then got an email to do a quick video interview. A few days later, a recruiter reached out for the first phone interview. Then I had to set up two Google Hangout interviews. One was a relaxed chat, and the other tested my technical abilities with the software. Finally, I was invited to Portsmouth for the last round, which involved three 30-minute interviews. Even though it took a while, I always knew what was going on. The recruiters were great at keeping me updated. I turned down the offer because I didn't want to relocate from Maryland. HubSpot seems like a great company, and it was a tough call. I'd definitely consider them again if moving were an option.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a challenging customer and describe your approach to resolving the situation?
