Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HubSpot.
Account Executive
The recruitment process was really well organized, clear, and professional. My main contact was Ali Saleem from Talent Acquisition, who was super professional, organized, and spoke clearly. It gave me a great first impression of HubSpot. On our first call, Ali helped me understand what to expect in the rest of the interview. Some places just stop talking to you if they don't pick you, but Ali from HubSpot was awesome and gave me specific, clear feedback on what they were looking for and what I should work on. Most places don't give feedback like that, so I really appreciated it from Ali and the HubSpot team. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
- Can you share a time you faced a setback at work or received feedback, and describe how you acted on it and what the outcome was?
Account Executive
In the application process for an Account Executive position for DACH, I was told that they were looking for rather "younger candidates" because the team is very young. This statement is discriminatory and violates the spirit of the AGG (General Equal Treatment Act). Instead of focusing on professional qualifications and sales experience, age seems to have been a decisive factor. Clear focus on the competencies, experience, and motivation of the applicants instead of age. After more than a month, I have not received a confirmation or rejection! But as if that weren't enough, the same job advertisement is online again.
- How would you describe the work atmosphere during the application process?
- How would you rate the equality within the application process?
- How would you describe the application process?
Account Executive
My interview experience with HubSpot was unfortunately disappointing. I had previously held the company in high regard and genuinely saw it as a dream employer, but the process left me with a very different impression. The interview felt impersonal and outdated. Standard, uninspired questions like “Tell me about a difficult sales experience” and “Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?” lacked relevance and depth - they felt more like a box-ticking exercise than a meaningful conversation. I expected more from a company known for innovation. Some calls were led by managers who came across as disinterested and unengaged, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere from the outset. In one case, it felt like I was managing someone's bad mood more than discussing a professional opportunity. To add to this, the talent team scheduled multiple calls with me that simply didn’t happen - one was delayed by over an hour without any communication. This lack of respect for candidates’ time doesn’t reflect well on the company culture. Additionally, the mock cold call and discovery task lacked proper structure or prep - no talk tracks or context. A fake makeshift website 'BeaconGaurd' was shared. It felt more like a test of how well someone can bluff through a vague task than a reflection of real-world client calls or onboarding readiness.
- In your sales career, can you describe a challenging situation you faced and how it concluded?
- What are your aspirations for the next five to ten years?
