Coding Technical Behavioral

It was a pretty standard tech interview process. It kicked off with a phone screen, then moved into a series of interviews. Since it's a remote company, they spread them out over a few days. It included both technical and behavioral interviews, plus a take-home coding assignment that had a pretty generous time limit. The questions and discussions were definitely aimed at the Staff level, focusing on broad impact, which is why I'd call it 'Fair' or 'Appropriate' difficulty.

I interviewed for a few jobs before I got hired at HR Acuity, and I can tell you the interview process definitely influenced my choice to take the job. Everything was super organized from the beginning to the end, with clear expectations laid out for each step. They were really respectful of my time and even sped things up when I asked. A well-defined interview process can really give you a good idea of how organized the onboarding and daily work might be. HR Acuity did a great job with this.

Behavioral Presentation

I met with the hiring manager and thought our conversation went well. A few days later, I received an email from the external recruiter saying that they'd be moving forward with other candidates. Was a bit surprised but didn't think much of it and carried on. I then received a text from their internal HR person explaining how there was a miscommunication and that they actually WANTED to move forward with me. It was a pleasant surprise, but also the beginning of their red flags! How can a company that focuses on employee relations lose track and mix up their candidates? I reached the final round where I presented a project. Once I finished giving my presentation, none of the team members had any questions or feedback on what I had just presented... thought this was a bit bizarre and disrespectful, especially after devoting 2 full days of my weekend working on said (unpaid) project. That same day, I received an email from HR saying they're "not extending an offer at this time." Two weeks after that, I noticed they launched the exact project (that I helped work on and contributed ideas to!). They even used an eerily similar headline to the one I had suggested as part of the strategy I presented. Clearly, they're not looking to hire anyone and are just scouting FREE ideas. OH! and I also noticed they reposted the job opening under a different recruiting company. Overall, a very frustrating and negative interview experience. If you want specialized work, then HIRE and PAY someone!!

The whole thing took more than a month. The recruiters were nice, but the actual interviews were rough. I asked for captions because I'm hard of hearing. One of the leaders interviewing me didn't even check if they worked on her end and didn't know how to turn them on. So I had to either use a less accurate captioning tool on my laptop or reschedule. Since I'd already been waiting a month, I decided to just go with it and try my best. It was pretty disappointing that a request for an accommodation was treated so casually. Then, I had to do another interview with two people who had already interviewed me. I don't get why they didn't make the process more streamlined from the beginning to avoid extra rounds and asking the same questions. But since I'm laid off and need a job, I went ahead and did it. In the end, they said they were going with other candidates who they felt were a better fit. I met all the qualifications in the job description and have nine years of experience in this field across different industries. I guess there's always someone better, but it would have been nice to see clearer decisions made earlier instead of dragging it out.
