This was a great experience and gave me a clear look at the company, its culture, and what to expect in Customer Success and with other teams. Each interview let me meet potential CS colleagues and also people from Sales, Relationship Management, and the Executive team. The interviewers had situational questions ready, but we also had a lot of natural conversation, which showed how genuine everyone was. HR/Recruitment kept me informed about what was coming next in the process. I felt supported throughout. After the last interview, the review and offer came through fast, so they get top marks for speed.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

I was contacted by a recruiter who seemed very new to the field. After some basic questions, she said I was a perfect fit and wanted to schedule the next interview. This interview was with a manager from a different department. His knowledge of my area was limited but he seemed happy and wanted me to interview with the 'top dogs'. The video interview with one of the 'top dogs' was interesting. Again, his knowledge was narrow and focused on the technical side. He made some comments and asked questions that seemed ageist. He told me it was between 3 candidates, 2 in the Bay area and me not. Four days later, the recruiter left a short message saying they offered the job to a young man from the Bay area.

I applied online through glassdoor.com and the process with HouseCanary was pretty smooth. HR got back to me right away. Then there was an initial screening, followed by two technical rounds with a Principal Data Scientist and a Senior Software Engineer. After that, I met the on-site team at the San Antonio, TX location for 5 rounds: 2 technical, 1 behavioral, and 2 case studies (discussions). I really enjoyed the whole process, the team was super welcoming and cheerful, and I'm excited to join House-Canary.

My interview with HouseCanary was awesome. A friend there got me in touch with their Head of Talent, who called me pretty quickly for a phone chat. After that, I talked with HC's VP of TechOps, who was acting as the hiring manager. We talked for ages, way more than just technical stuff. We discussed org development, people ops, growing talent, and being a good company, which are all things I'm really passionate about. Then I went on-site. I met the Head of Talent, who showed me a cool product demo. Then I met the hiring manager and a product manager, and had lunch with my friend. The office was kinda small and hot back then, but everyone seemed really into it. The Head of Talent kept in touch, setting up times and letting me know what was next. I figured they were gonna offer me the job. The last step was breakfast with the Co-Founder & CEO. After talking with him, I was totally sold. I was looking at other jobs and was even thinking of leaving a job I loved, but other CEOs were kind of a letdown, some were even rude. Jeremy (the CEO) was different – smart, nice, relaxed, and he had a real vision for the company because he'd experienced the same issues for years and knew he could fix it with great data, products, and customer service. I really liked how they did interviews, especially how communicative, professional, smart, and timely the Head of Talent was. The interview process was a big reason I decided to join HC.
