A few steps that take their time, filling a form with the CV, video answers and then conference interview. I got declined after the video answers and I knew that would be the outcome. I spent a lot of time to get the recording, and it was just not my thing - I was unhappy with my explanations, I had really hard time to talk to the camera by myself, I looked really bad, inadequate. So I just spend almost a day for a 7 min video, then just sent what I have without trying to make it better. Maybe it's better that we've parted ways at this stage.

Hotjar has a unique hiring process. It starts with a thorough application form, which I spent a lot of time on. Then there's a video interview that's a bit different, followed by a standard panel interview. Since it's a remote company, all interviews are done online via Google Hangouts. The best part was a task where I got to build something full-stack from scratch based on a spec. I then presented it and answered questions. This was way better than typical whiteboard coding. The task was challenging but fun, and I could ask anyone questions. It was cool to answer their questions about the project too, as they asked things that made me think – a good sign of a solid team! Hotjar seemed like a great group of smart, friendly people. Everyone was nice and respectful, making the tough questions easier. Just be patient, as they get many applications and there can be weeks between stages. But you hear back quickly if you advance, which is nice.

So the interview process had 5 stages: online application, a recorded video Q&A, a phone interview, a practical task, and then the offer. Honestly, it looked pretty intimidating at first, but talking to the interviewers during the phone interview really helped me relax. The team members were super friendly and made me feel comfortable right away. The task part was definitely the toughest, trying to make the code concise yet show off my skills, especially with a tight deadline! But again, the team was really helpful, answering all my questions, which guided me on how deep to go with features and manage my time. Then, presenting the solution to a big group, including company leaders, was also easier because everyone was so friendly. The CEO was open to all questions about the company, and the conversation was really open. It was a really welcoming vibe and took a lot of the pressure off. Overall, interviewing with Hotjar was a great experience; the team was so friendly, and it's rare to meet company leadership and ask them about the business during an interview!
