Scientist II R&D
I applied online and HR reached out a few days later to set up an initial video chat with the hiring manager. It was a really nice, engaging talk about my background, the job's science, and moving from academia to industry. The hiring manager seemed super into his work and made me feel good about the team. Then, about ten days later, I had the final panel interview, which was around 2 hours. It had three parts: a competency interview with HR, a presentation to the whole team, and a technical interview. The whole experience was great, felt very welcoming, and everyone was really enthusiastic about the research and working together. I got the offer two days after that.
- Could you share details about your past work experience?
- What's driving your interest in transitioning from academia to industry for this role?
- What do you anticipate as the key differences transitioning from academia?
Business Development
First, I had a phone call with the hiring manager to go over the position and talk about my past work. Then, I was supposed to have a second interview with some team members where I had to give a powerpoint presentation about a business plan for the territory. This plan was supposed to cover what I would do to grow the territory, and then we'd have a Q&A session.
- When faced with a situation, do you tend to seek approval beforehand or take action and seek forgiveness later?
Scientist
The interviewer was nice and made me feel comfortable. It was overall an average good interview. But they expect you to know in depth about the techniques used by them and be thoroughly trained.
- What techniques were you trained in?
- Do you know in depth the techniques used by them?
- Were you trained on the techniques used by them?
Manager
The process started with a phone interview and then a panel interview. The managers asked similar questions but in a friendly and supportive way. The receptionist was very helpful and had an informal approach, which was reassuring. It would be good to have people's roles explained in the room.
- Can you describe how you motivate your team to perform at a high level
