Associate Director
I applied online and then had a phone interview about two weeks later. The phone interview was fine (typical questions) and then I was interviewed onsite by the executive director the following week. The guy was clearly unprepared for the interview and wasn't super polite. In the end, after spending hundreds of dollars flying across the country for the interview, I never heard back. So rude!
- Can you tell me about a time when...
Coordinator
Found the job posting online and sent my resume and cover letter. Got an email back in under a week from the supervisor for the role. We had a phone interview about a week after that. I think it went pretty well. The questions were mostly "tell me about a time when...". At the end, they said I'd hear back in about a week if I was moving on, or not hear back if I wasn't. But they did say I could email them if I had questions. I sent a thank you email the same day. About a week later, I hadn't heard anything, so I sent a follow-up email to check. Then I sent another one a week after that. Never got a response.
- Can you share an instance where you successfully navigated a challenge involving a student?
Residential Counselor
I spoke with the Executive Director and Program Coordinator. They were great to talk to, really nice and gave me a lot of info. They talked about their own past experiences as residential counselors and went into detail about different situations, daily tasks, and planning that would be part of the job. They felt I'd be a good fit, but I still need to finish an online application, pass a background check, and meet the girls before getting a formal offer to be a Live-In Counselor. They seemed as hopeful and excited as I am.
- Can you tell us about your past employment history, your reasons for seeking a position with us, and your career aspirations?
- What motivates you to want to work in this role?
- What are your long-term professional objectives?
Residential Counselor
I had an initial phone screen and then was flown to Phoenix about 3 weeks later to meet the program director and some of the girls who live in the group home. I got offered the job on the last day of the home visit.
- What makes you want to work in the non-profit sector?
