The interview process at Hometap was too long and felt like a waste of candidate time. After four rounds of interviews, including a mock call and several other interviews and exercises, they scheduled a fifth interview. But then they cancelled it and sent a generic rejection email. It was clear they didn't respect candidates' time and effort. I get wanting to be thorough, but this many interviews without clear communication or closure shows an inefficient hiring process that could be much more streamlined and considerate.

I'm super disappointed with Hometap's recruiting. A current employee hit me up on LinkedIn about a job and passed my resume along. After a few weeks, I got an email to set up a call with Abigail Jackson, which I did quickly. On the day of the call, a few minutes in, Abbi emailed saying she was running late. Not ideal, but I appreciated the heads-up. A few minutes later, I got an email from Kylee Galer saying Abbi had an emergency and needed to reschedule. This was really disappointing, but I get that stuff happens, so I rescheduled. Abbi called for the rescheduled appointment (she was a few minutes late again and didn't even mention it). The call was on Tuesday (1/16/24) and went pretty well, I thought. Honestly, it felt like a formality and that she was already planning to move me forward. She mentioned she was scheduling me for another call that Thursday (1/18/24) and hoped to wrap things up for the 1/29 onboarding class. I was really hyped. The job seemed perfect and I was looking forward to hopefully being done with my job search. The tech job market is rough, so getting any response felt amazing. But then... nothing. No call, no email, no anything. I figured she was just busy and maybe forgot, so I gave it a few days. I sent a follow-up email on Monday the 22nd. No response. I sent ANOTHER one on Feb 7th, CCing Kylee in case Abbi was away – still trying to be understanding. Total silence. This really showed me what Hometap's culture is like. Anything they say about being human-centric is just for show. I didn't expect a job offer, but I did expect basic human decency. Be careful, everyone.

I started with a 30 minute phone screen where we discussed high level details on my background and previous roles. In the second round, I had more detailed conversations with 4 or 5 interviewers from different departments where we dove into specifics regarding my experience and examples of how I'd managed different situations, juggled multiple projects, and interacted with team members. The second round lasted a few hours and I was happy to get the chance to meet with different people that I'd be working with in the role. I came away with a good understanding of what would be expected of me in the job and how I'd fit in at Hometap overall.
