Software Engineer
I applied at CoStar Group and a recruiter got in touch after a couple weeks to ask about my background and if I'd be interested in another role. The first interview was a 30-minute video call with a VP and some Tech Leads. They asked about my past and current work and my responsibilities on projects. It felt pretty collaborative. The recruiter gave me good feedback and said a second round would be scheduled soon. The second interview was supposed to be 2 hours long with a different set of team members and, based on Glassdoor, should have been a deep dive technical interview. However, I was disappointed because none of the interviewers asked any technical questions. They just asked the same questions from the first round. It seemed like they weren't very engaged; they were chatting and laughing amongst themselves, visible on their monitors since they were seated behind each other. One interviewer even said, 'Common guys its a long weekend, Lets get this done quickly.' I felt this was very disrespectful. I thought I answered everything they asked, but I got a rejection email saying I wasn't a good fit for the Senior position and would be better suited for a Junior Dev role. I know I can't change the decision or ask for specific reasons for rejection, but it's disheartening to prepare so much for an interview with high expectations, only to not be asked any technical questions and then get rejected. I'll definitely think twice about interviewing with this team again after this experience.

PR Associate
My interview journey began with a recruiter who set up an initial phone screening. We talked about my interest in the job, when I could start, and what I was looking for salary-wise. It turned out that role wasn't the right fit, so I asked about a different opening. The recruiter said she'd check with the hiring manager. A week later, she let me know the hiring manager was interested in a phone interview. That call was about 30 minutes, covering more about the job, the company, and the role itself. Later that week, I was invited for a 2-hour in-person interview at the office. Present were the company President, the hiring manager, their supervisor, and the recruiter. The recruiter was really helpful and flexible throughout, even when I had to reschedule the in-person due to the flu. Before the in-person, I had to do a writing test: create a PR pitch for Homesnap, including a contact list and ideas for publicity. I had about a week for this. After sending it in, the recruiter sent me the details for the in-person interview. The meetings with the president and the hiring manager's supervisor went well. However, meeting the hiring manager and a different senior recruiter changed things. The hiring manager's questions were all over the place, making me feel rushed and unclear about what they really wanted. They mentioned working long hours and taking on many extra tasks outside their role, which made me think I'd be doing the same. It felt like the job title was just a label and the actual role would be to help with their workload. While I understand start-ups often require extra effort, this vibe suggested I wouldn't be doing the core job duties. The final conversation with the senior recruiter was one of the worst. They were really abrasive, used curse words, and said they only cared about whether I'd get along with the hiring manager, not my experience. That made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable, confirming this wasn't the right place for me, even though the earlier meetings were positive.

Sales
Spoke with a recruiter about an account management role, but they realized I was a better fit for the ISR role. Had a 30-min phone screen, then got an email for a 2-hour interview. The calendar invite was for 1 hour, but I blocked off 2 hours just in case. The interview was only an hour long. The manager thought he was interviewing me for the account manager role. After the interview, I got an email saying the team was impressed and they'd reach out with next steps early the next week. No word a week later, so I emailed again. They quickly scheduled a call to apologize, saying they'd been busy with final interviews and that the position was filled. They offered to keep my info for the next hiring round. When I asked questions, I said I was confused, and they explained they'd raise my concerns about how they word their emails to management. Despite it being a fast-growing company with new hires, the disorganization and lack of decency left a negative impression.

Customer Support Manager
I found the job posting on CraigsList (back when the company wasn't really into recruiting like they are now). Someone got back to me, and we did a phone screening. After that, they invited me to their old office (we've moved since then). I was there for about two hours and talked to three different people. I got a job offer about two weeks later, and after some quick negotiation, I accepted it.
