The recruiter was great, communicative and clear. The process felt a little too long though. It involved a case study, which is pretty standard for product roles, but the people I'd present it to were the same ones I had 1:1s with later. The final interview was with the CPO, who was a bit of a braggart and didn't really have a product background. His vision for the role didn't match what the team I'd been talking to for weeks was looking for. The team described a chaotic situation and a desire for change, but he didn't seem to want change, making it a confusing conversation. Honestly, it felt like the team hadn't set me up for success. I got rejected officially three days later with no feedback. Given the time commitment, including a weekend for the case study and all the interviews, it doesn't feel like a respectful organization.

I had super friendly and direct to point conversations with two senior partners. No funny questions, no tests and just a very professional interview of my previous experiences and credentials. It came to a halt when I reported I needed a sponsor for my H1-B visa and we understood I would not be a fit for that position because of the time it take to conclude the immigration process.

A 3rd-party recruiter reached out and submitted my profile for a first round phone screen with someone internal. We had a 30 minute Zoom call scheduled for Friday afternoon (they were in MST). Most of the call was standard for a first round: 'tell me about yourself, your current role, and any questions you have.' After that, instead of wrapping up, they surprised me with a coding challenge, which was unexpected for a 30-minute intro call. I tried my best to focus after a long day and got through about 60% of the problem before I had to apologize for being too tired to continue right then. The interviewer said it was 'totally fine' and that I 'showed I knew the important parts,' even after I double-checked. Later, the recruiter told me they decided not to move forward because I 'wasn't able to finish a problem-solving question' and it 'seemed like a startup culture wasn't something I was interested in.' I had asked about work/life balance and how they ensure it. So, maybe it's on me for not expecting the unexpected in a first round, or maybe that's how they gauge fit for their 'startup culture.' If you're looking to join them, be ready for anything in any interview, or maybe consider other housing market startups.

A recruiter from Homebound contacted me for the first round. Then I had a second round with the hiring manager who seemed very positive and mentioned she'd prepare case studies for me the following week. On the day she was supposed to send them, she asked for my availability for the case studies, and I said I was available that same day. Later, she sent a brief email stating the position was no longer needed. This makes Homebound seem shady because they didn't finalize the job opening internally before interviewing people, and the hiring manager's short, unclear email after my investment of time felt flaky. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I got a better offer elsewhere with double the pay.
