Associate Attorney
My first interview, typical of OCI for big law, was very short and the associate attorney was nice. I didn't get a callback right away, but most firms give callbacks in 24-48 hours if they want you. I heard back about two weeks later. The callback interview was at the firm's office and I met with five attorneys consecutively. The vibe was super friendly and we didn't just talk law. The point is for partners and associates to see if they like you, not if you're smart or know a lot of law. Your resume shows that, so don't talk about stuff on it. If an interviewer starts looking at your resume for questions, you've probably hurt your chances.
- What do you do?
- Tell me about your work.
- What are your views on the interview process in law firms?
Associate Attorney
I met with six attorneys in groups of two. Most of the Associates and Partners I spoke with seemed unhappy, possibly with their jobs, and generally unfriendly, with one exception. One Partner held up my writing sample distastefully and asked what it was, which I took as a sign of his general unpleasantness. If an offer had been made, I would have declined it.
- "What is this?" (holding up my writing sample with disdain)
Attorney
the process was fine. questions were easy. people working there are good. ultimately didn't want to do big law so its fine. everyone treated me well, and it was a pleasant experience. I would recommend them as a firm.
- Could you please tell me about yourself?
