First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Holland & Hart LLP.
IP Specialist
I interviewed for this role about four weeks ago. I met with two IP specialist leads and two partner attorneys. The process was organized and I liked talking with multiple team members at different levels. Most conversations were engaging and informative. But, the second specialist lead interview felt a bit discouraging. They kept asking if I was okay with strict deadlines and lots of client communication. I told them my current work background means I'm used to busy, deadline-driven places and always talking to clients. Even so, I felt like they didn't quite get my experience. The interviewer stressed the role is demanding and needs resilience, which I get. I just wish we could have talked more about how my background fits the job. I didn't get an offer. Even though it was mixed, I appreciated meeting the team and understanding the role's expectations. Advice to Management: Interviewers should be curious and open, especially with candidates from related areas. It really helps the candidate experience.
- How do you manage your email communication?
- Can you confirm your comfort level with strict deadlines?
- How do you feel about frequent client interactions?
Patent Engineer
I had an initial phone screening. It was a relaxed phone call. They asked if I knew anything about patents, but said it was totally fine if I didn't. They seem to be open to training people and understand that STEM grads don't have much experience with the law.
- Can you tell me about your resume?
- Do you have any ties to the mountain west region?
- Are you interested in relocating to the mountain west?
Intellectual Property Specialist
The interview timeline was as originally communicated. It started with an HR screen, then there was a 1 hour 45 min full round of virtual interviews. There were 4 interviewers total - 2 leads in the role and 2 attorneys. Each interviewer spoke for about 20 min, and then the next one would come in (2 attorneys interviewed concurrently). One interviewer seemed disengaged, but the others seemed to really enjoy their jobs there.
- Have you ever filed a patent?
Legal Assistant
The interview process was easy, but way too long and drawn out. I had the same interviewer for most of the interviews. The questions were almost identical each time. It started with a 30 minute screening call, then another 30 minute interview focusing on work style and management approach, followed by a 30 minute informal chat with the manager and a legal assistant. The final interview was a 30 minute meeting with a partner. Communication about the process was minimal, and I was never informed it would involve four interviews. The interviews themselves were straightforward and conversational.
- How do you prefer to be trained?
- Can you share an example of a time when...?
- What motivates your interest in this position?
