First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Holland & Barrett.
Store Manager
It started with my CV and cover letter, which was straightforward. Then I had a face-to-face interview with a current store manager. Finally, I had an informal chat with the Regional Manager, and they basically offered me the job.
- What is your motivation for wanting to work for H&B?
- Could you introduce yourself and share your experience?
- How would you handle a conflict within your team?
Store Manager
First I had an interview with the area manager, then a second stage interview with the regional manager. They asked general background questions, then we talked about what challenges I thought would come up in the store and how I would go about resolving them. We also discussed targets and how I would achieve them, as well as staffing issues and development. Finally, we covered general strategy about how to carry forward the business and the individual shop.
- What do you anticipate being your biggest challenges?
- How would you tackle the challenges you foresee in the store?
- What strategies would you employ to meet targets?
Store Manager
I initially applied for the graduate field management scheme. After a phone interview, I had a face-to-face interview at Holland and Barrett's head office. This was with a director and an area manager. It turned out I couldn't relocate around the UK at the time, so they asked if I'd be interested in a store management position. I agreed and had another interview later that week, again at the head office, this time with a regional manager and a senior director. This interview lasted about an hour and was quite formal. It wasn't too difficult, and I got through. They said I'd know the outcome within two weeks, and they got back to me about 10 days later to offer me the store manager role.
- Can you tell me about your university education?
- What have you learned from your previous roles?
- How would you go about meeting your store's Key Performance Indicators?
