I had a phone interview after applying through a recruiter. Then I was waiting for another round but it never happened. The recruiter wasn't clear on the responsibilities, so I didn't push it. I would prefer a better description and direction.

I had the strangest and most negative interview experience of my career. It started with a recruiter call, then a business development manager call, and finally a long onsite interview with CEO Greg Hold. The first two interviews went well, but the final round onsite was over 3 hours long. Greg had me sit and answer questions while he typed everything, and I wasn't allowed to ask him any questions. I asked to meet the CFO and the accounting team, but Greg said I wouldn't meet them until I started, which was a huge red flag. A month passed with no decision. Then, Greg called to present an offer, but turned it into another 2-hour interview session. He was also 1.5 hours late to this call before a holiday weekend. Dealing with Greg was frustrating, and I wondered about the company culture. He eventually extended an offer, which I declined. The office also seemed sad and small, like a dental clinic waiting room. The benefits are also non-existent and would cost half my salary unless I had a spouse with better benefits.

It was a very slow process, with weeks passing between interview stages and not much communication. One of the people interviewing me basically seemed to be trying to warn me off the job. They apparently have a strict work-from-home policy where you're on camera the entire time to make sure you're working. Also, it sounds like the CEO, who is a bit eccentric, often makes unreasonable requests at the last minute or outside of normal work hours.

I knew the company already and reached out to someone I knew there when I finished my consulting gig and was looking for a job. First, I had a phone chat with another SVP. Then, I met with the CEO multiple times in person and over the phone. It was a really deep dive – they asked about my skills, what I liked, and past projects. They really dug into my work history, going way back. It felt like they were trying to understand me completely as a candidate and figure out exactly where I'd fit in.
