The interview process involved an online interview where I was asked standard questions like why I was interested in Hogan Lovells and to identify a current commercial trend impacting the legal industry. It's important to prepare for these questions as they can be tricky to answer on the spot.

The interview process started with a situation judgement test, which was all about scenarios you'd face as a trainee. Some questions were really tough, and honestly, I didn't know the answers. Then there was a partner interview where I had to go through a case study about a retail business looking to expand. The last part was lunch with some trainees, which wasn't assessed.

Applied online. Had to do the Watson Glaser test. Then a phone interview where they asked strength-based questions, which weren't too hard and the interviewer was nice. After that, an assessment centre. It started with a situational judgment interview with HR and an associate. The HR person was friendly, but the associate was really unfriendly and pushed every scenario to the worst possible outcome. This lasted about an hour. Then there was an interview with two partners. They asked general questions about why I want to do commercial law and really grilled me on it. We also went over the case study, which wasn't too bad. Then they asked some more questions about what a law firm would need to do if a client wanted to buy another business, which was pretty simple. This interview was over an hour long. Lastly, there was a group exercise where we had to decide which new client would be best for the firm to take on. We also had to do the Watson Glaser test again.
