First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HNA Group.
Investment Analyst
The interview process for the Investment Analyst role in the Portfolio Management division had two main rounds. The first was an introduction, and the second involved technical and behavioral questions. There were many prejudice and mismanagement questions, making it feel more like an interrogation than an interview. They even questioned my language fluency despite speaking Mandarin well during the interview. The overall behavior questions felt really unprofessional and indicated mismanagement.
- How would you handle a situation where a colleague refuses to share company data?
- Describe how you would manage a task that falls outside your responsibilities when your leader holds you accountable for it.
- If a colleague provides incorrect data and your manager blames you for it, how would you respond?
Investment Banker
First, there was an HR interview where they asked behavioral questions. Then, I had an interview with the division manager who focused on professional knowledge, including accounting questions about ratio calculation and formula usage, and a case study involving building a basic DCF valuation model. Finally, I spoke with the HR department manager for a casual chat to assess communication fit with the division.
- HR interview - behavioral questions.
- Division manager interview - professional knowledge: accounting questions - ratio calculation & formula utilization.
- Division manager interview - case study: modeling building (basic DCF valuation model).
Software Engineer
The first step was a group discussion on a particular subject with about 6 people in a group and over 10 interviewers from various HNA Group departments observing. Following that, a technical interview was conducted based on the resume. This round had 3 technical interviewers and 1 HR interviewer who asked about personal details and ideas. The whole process moved fast, and an offer was expected within a week after the second interview.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- Tell me about yourself.
- What are your personal information and ideas?

Okay, so after you send in your CV and HR likes it, they'll call you for the first round. This is a group interview with three parts. First, you get 2 minutes to introduce yourself. Then, we'll give you a case question where you'll have a group discussion about the most and least important qualities of a good leader. Finally, the interviewers will ask you some questions specific to you.
