The interview process had 3 stages. First, there were 2 online assessments. After that, I had an interview with a group of panelists. The questions were about 3 different Civil Service behaviours and 3 strength-based questions. I used the STAR technique to answer. The job description had already highlighted the specific behaviour questions they wanted to assess, which was helpful for preparing. The interview took about 45 minutes.

Behavioral Technical Case

For HMRC's Tax Specialist Program, the online interview journey usually has a few steps. It's mostly about competency questions to check how you solve problems, analyze things, and if you know your tax stuff. You might also get situational judgment tests or case studies to see if you can actually use what you know in real tax situations. They want to make sure everyone they consider is a good fit for the tricky tax jobs at HMRC.

After submitting my application online, I had to take some competency tests, like the Civil Services SJT, numerical reasoning, and verbal reasoning tests. Then, there was an online video interview where I had to answer preset questions within a time limit for each recording. To proceed to the next step, I had to pass each of these stages. If I didn't pass any stage, my application was considered withdrawn.
