First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HM Revenue and Customs.
Administrative
The interview was an online one, with recorded answers (30 seconds each, with one re-record allowed). There were also online tests and work-based scenarios. Honestly, it felt pretty tedious, especially since I've done similar interviews before.
- What are your thoughts on the importance of customer service?
- How important is customer service to you personally?
Executive Assistant
I had to answer STAR questions and give examples of things I've done before. Then there was a very easy online test, followed by a phone interview, and finally an interview over Teams. I got the job and started working within 2 months.
- What are your salary expectations?
Administrative Assistant
I initially applied in February but didn't make it to an interview due to the high applicant volume. In May, I was contacted about a similar role and accepted an interview for June 28, 2024, via Teams. I was familiar with the behavioral questions asked, which helped. However, the interviewers seemed to lack knowledge about the role, so they weren't very informative. After about three weeks, I was told I was on the reserve list for the London branch due to its high score requirement. I eventually got an offer for the Bristol location, but declined because I'd already accepted another Civil Service role. While the new role pays a bit less, I only have to go to the office once a week instead of three times.
- Tell me about a time you worked effectively with a team to complete a project or reach a shared objective.
- Can you give an example of a time you had to deliver a project with a tight deadline?
- What steps would you take if you found a team member not contributing adequately to a project?
