The tests are okay. Quite time consuming, but the questions are straight forward. As long as you keep the customers needs at the centre of your decision making. They will play a video and then give you multiple choice options and ask how would you respond. If you get through the testing stage, and score well, they will send you a virtual interview link. These are pre-recorded questions, often requiring the STAR style answers.
- Tell me about a time you had to act quickly under pressure. Describe the situation and your resolution.

The interview process took a while to get started. The actual interview was very rigid and not like other civil service interviews. It also took two weeks longer than expected to get the results. It's frustrating how long it took to get feedback, especially after putting in effort on the application, interview prep, and waiting. It's a shame I spent so much time preparing, applying, and waiting for such minimal feedback from this large and poorly managed department.
- Could you outline your decision-making process and explain how you ensure you reach your intended goals?
Customer Consultant
Applied online via the civil service website, which was pretty straightforward with just competency questions and asking why I wanted the job. Then came some online tests, numerical and verbal reasoning. They weren’t timed, so I took my sweet time over an afternoon, popping out for coffee breaks. I found it easy to get good scores since I didn’t rush and figured out the answers, actually finding it a bit fun to do. Got an email a few weeks after the closing date inviting me to an interview at this massive regional centre. The people running the interview were super friendly. Initially, I felt a bit overwhelmed, like a deer in headlights, but once I chatted with the staff managing the event, I felt much more at ease and able to chill. They were happy to just talk and made sure I took my time, offering water and such. Make sure you have your NI number handy for the ID check part.
- What steps would you take if a customer did not comprehend a letter they received?
- How would you handle situations with tight deadlines?
- Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
