Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HKA.
Intern
It was a 3-round process for interns, no case interview. The first round was a 30-minute in-person behavioral interview. The second and third rounds were back-to-back behavioral interviews at the office. For interns, there was no case interview, but for full-time applicants, it looks like they got materials (like P&L statements or financial info for forensic accounting) to prep for and were tested on it in an extra round after the two behavioral ones.
- What is your motivation for joining HKA?
- Describe a time you worked with data.
- Could you please walk me through your resume?
Intern
It was a one-on-one online interview where I first introduced myself. Then, there were some technical questions about construction scheduling and claims. We also talked about my understanding of the role based on my experience and some key responsibilities.
- How are construction claims typically handled?
- Based on your personal experience, what is your understanding of this position?
- Could you elaborate on some of the critical responsibilities involved in this role?
Intern
The interview process involved 2 rounds. First was a phone call with the manager, where they asked a few general behavioral questions. The second round was a 3-hour interview that included an Excel test, a case study interview, an email writing test, and a closing interview with the Partner. The second round was challenging but a great learning experience. Another manager conducted the case study part. I received a draft Excel sheet a few hours prior to check that it opened correctly and functioned perfectly during the interview. The manager patiently answered my questions for about 1.5 hours while I worked on the case. I analyzed the data in Excel and summarized my findings in an email typically sent to the client. The last step was the closing interview with the Partner, where we discussed my intern role, future career trajectory at HKA, and any questions I had. It felt more like a project than an interview! I happily accepted the offer and look forward to starting my internship!
- Could you tell me your motivation for applying to HKA?
- Please solve the provided case study.
- Analyze the data within the provided Excel sheet.
