Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HKA.
Consultant
So we had this initial interview, about an hour long, with two associates where they hit us with behavioral questions. Then, there was a longer 3-hour interview that included tests for excel, writing, and reading, and we also met with some more senior associates. The tests were okay, not too hard, but the time given was really tight.
- What makes you want to work in consulting?
Consultant
I went through a 4-round interview process. It started with an HR phone call, then a Zoom interview with a partner, followed by a Zoom interview with a director. The final round involved a case study and an interview with a partner. Although I received positive feedback throughout the month-long process, I was ultimately told I wasn't a good fit, which was confusing given how many opportunities they had to end the process earlier. This drawn-out experience with conflicting feedback from HR was unusual. I felt like I was asked the same questions repeatedly, and the HR contact seemed unaware of the process, leading to miscommunication. It felt like a waste of time.
- Can you walk me through your background?
Consultant
The interview process took about a month and included an application, a video call about requirements, and then the interview. The interview had a 10 minute presentation using a PowerPoint deck. It was with the hiring manager and a partner and was very conversational. They made me feel very comfortable. My only critique is that they didn’t include the physical requirements of the job within the job ad and so I wasted a lot of time.
