Software Engineer
So, there were 8 rounds total. First, a phone screen with HR to see if my background matched what they're looking for. Then, a proctored online test that recorded my screen, had 5 questions, took 90 minutes, and included 3 theory questions, a medium DP algo problem, and a database question. After that, it was a mix of behavioral, systems design, culture fit, more behavioral, another live coding session, and finally, a meeting with the hiring manager. The recruiters were kinda shady, honestly. They said they hire the best engineers for any role and wouldn't tell me the pay range, saying it depended on the level I'd get. In the end, they said I was too senior and suggested I apply for a senior role later. Like, really? After I aced everything, they say I'm too senior and want me to reapply later? Total waste of my time.
- Phone screen with HR gauging alignment between past experiences, and the role requirements
- Online assessment with 5 questions (90 minutes): 3 theory problems
- Medium level DP algo problem
Software Engineer
The interview process at Hiya started with a phone screen. Then, there were two more phone interviews with different team leads. The first one went really well, it was a mix of a technical interview and some general questions about culture fit. I felt like I clicked with the interviewer and solved the technical question easily. The second interview was focused solely on a technical question. I did alright on that one, I found a solution but it wasn't the most elegant. Overall, the interviews felt pretty easy and I thought I connected well with the interviewers. But I never heard back after that. I even followed up a couple of times, once pretty soon after and then again a few weeks later, but got no response at all. If it wasn't for being completely ignored, it would have been a good experience because I liked the interviews themselves. But getting ghosted after interviewing was definitely not a good look.
- Tell me about your mobile development background and experience.
- How do you see yourself fitting in with our company culture?
- Can you work through a technical problem?
Software Engineer
After applying, the process starts with a coding interview on Hackerrank, which is pretty straightforward with one or two questions. If you pass, you'll move on to two phone interviews. These are also standard and easy, but expect many follow-up questions. The interviewers were nice and helpful. After passing the phone interviews, you get invited for an onsite interview. The onsite experience is great, featuring 4-5 interviews. The first is scenario-based, the second is a design question, the third and fifth are coding questions, and the fourth combines coding with resume-based questions. Notably, one coding interview involved collaborative brainstorming and pair programming with the interviewer.
