Intern
I spoke with a recruiter who was super nice. The interviews were pretty straightforward, with three total rounds. It's a good idea to know about the company and the specific job you're applying for. They're also really easy to reach via email.
- Can you introduce yourself and explain your interest in this position?
Product Manager
I had an informal chat through a mutual contact. It turned out there was a misunderstanding about my skills and I wasn't right for the open role. They mentioned I'd be a good fit for another role, but none were available. That was okay, but then the interviewer made a discriminatory comment about working mothers. I usually avoid mentioning my child in interviews to prevent this, but I had to disclose a maternity leave period. I wasn't asking for anything special, but they assumed I would and saw it as an inconvenience. I was shocked and felt uncomfortable about the company culture. I didn't follow up about other roles, even though I really liked their products and had relevant experience. I was too scared to complain back then because I couldn't risk burning bridges with potential employers.
- Can you describe your skillset?
Project Delivery Analyst
The recruiter was nice and we spoke on the phone. It started pretty standard, like intros, talking about strengths, and my biggest career mistake and how I got past it. But then they hit me with some tough questions that made me really think outside the box and try to estimate big numbers. They let me know back within the week.
- Tell me about your strengths.
- Can you share your biggest mistake in a project or career and how you overcame it?
- Thinking outside the box, can you estimate some large values?
Customer Operations Specialist
My first meeting was supposed to be with HR, but someone else showed up. Right after, I got a case study to complete within a day plus the weekend. I managed to finish and send it before the deadline. Three days later, I got a generic rejection: "we have decided to move with another candidate." No real feedback on the case study.
- Can you tell me about your past work experiences?
- We have a case study for you concerning the day-to-day duties of a COps role.
