First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HireVue.
Software Engineer
The whole process was pretty slow and dragged on for a while. By the time things wrapped up, I wasn't really feeling it anymore. I applied, and after about 3 weeks, I had to do an online interview. It wasn't great, using old Flash tech, which meant I had to install Flash again after years. This surprised me given their marketing. Then, you gotta answer some common interview questions on webcam with a time limit, and also do a coding question right in the browser, using their CodeEval system. You need to make sure it passes unit tests. After that, they invited me in for an interview where I had to code a basic app related to the job. They didn't seem super prepared though; some of the usual interviewers weren't around, and others were in meetings.
- Tell me about a challenging project you've worked on recently.
Senior Software Engineer
The interview process was long and took a lot of time, with many interviews with different people. They recorded the interviews using their own software. Even though interviewers watched the recordings, they still asked the same kinds of questions. The recruiter said there would be no whiteboarding after the initial coding interview, but the software lead ended up doing whiteboarding. Whiteboarding is fine, but it would have been good to know beforehand that it was part of the process.
- Have you ever intentionally introduced a bug into your code?
Software Engineer
The first step was an on-demand recorded interview where I had to record video responses to video questions and also complete a coding challenge on their platform. After that, the subsequent interviews were in person. Everyone I met during the process was really nice, professional, and friendly. Overall, it was a really great interview experience.
- What are potential ways the code I submitted for the coding challenge could fail?
