The hiring manager was really condescending and made me feel uneasy, which impacted my ability to answer questions well. They repeatedly said 'no' and seemed to smirk at my responses. It's funny because I saw a similar review online from someone who might have had the same interviewer. The questions weren't super hard, but it felt uncomfortable to ask for clarification because of how they reacted. Overall, there was a lack of friendliness and respect.
- Regarding new hosts, what would your objective be to ensure their success, and what discussions would you have to establish this objective?
- Describe your approach to analyzing the booking data for new hosts during their initial 30 days.

I found the job on LinkedIn and applied. A recruiter reached out and we scheduled an initial call with the hiring manager. That call was a great chat about my background, Hipcamp, and the role. We also did a quick thought experiment. They seemed focused on understanding my thinking and how I ask questions, which I liked. Then, I had to do a case study presentation for the hiring manager and an analyst. I presented an analysis I'd done before, covering the problem, my approach, outcomes, and how I managed stakeholders. It was a bit unusual but cool to talk about something I knew well. The next day, I met with an Engineering Manager, the Head of US Operations, and a Product Analyst. The EM conversation got deep into my views on engineering vs. analytics and the roles of different data positions. The Head of US Ops asked about my market evaluation process and using data for it. The Product Analyst session had some SQL questions and more on how I view stakeholders, metrics, and data overall. It was a top-tier interview experience; everyone was enthusiastic and great to talk to. After showing I could do the technical parts, they really focused on my ability to think about key metrics, business value, and new ideas for the company. The hiring manager even offered to connect me with people across the company after extending a verbal offer. After sorting out final details, I was super happy to accept!

The interview was with someone who would have been my boss if I got the job. She seemed uninterested from the beginning, didn't even turn on her camera for the Zoom call. She joined the intro call, and another team member joined later. She didn't introduce her, so I had to ask about the new joiner's role and introduce myself since the interview had already started. It was a red flag that she either didn't respect her colleague enough to introduce her or just doesn't know how to handle a call with multiple people. The interviewer was very unsociable and unfriendly. She asked if I knew about Hipcamp, I told her about my experience using it and that my family lists land on it, but she just moved on without a conversation. Why ask the question then? She then read the company description aloud from a prompt and barely defined the job. Overall, she seemed ill-equipped to handle an interview or be productive on a team. She put me on the spot asking about my job, questioning the validity of my employer (a large, respected tech company) when she clearly knew nothing about the industry, and was very short when answering my questions. She also asked a question that was an interesting thought experiment, but was baffled that I didn't understand it after only 15 minutes of talking. When I asked what data they had available, she said 'everything' and seemed annoyed that my answer wasn't what she expected. I've never felt more on the defensive in an interview. Based on other reviews, people have had similar experiences, and this role has been open for a while. Maybe she wasn't impressed, but if so, don't waste my time. Honestly, even if I got a follow-up, if she continued to show such unprofessionalism and lack of sociability, I wouldn't have proceeded.
