& Process

I applied online for the driver position through Indeed.com. I was emailed 2 days later to come in for an interview. When I came in there was about 12 other people there. The hiring manager went over the general position requirements and information about the company. I was informed that even though I applied for driver, everyone starts as an inventory associate. You watch a video and do a practice session with the handheld counter. Then do 1 on 1 interviews. The whole process was long (be sure to eat dinner first!) It took over 4 hours. After the initial interview, I received an email telling me I was hired and to come back for orientation in 2 days.

I applied for a buyer job and they first said it would be a short phone call. During the MS Teams call, I was the only one with my camera on. They commented on my appearance and mentioned they expected a suit, even though it was supposed to be a brief intro call. The interviewer asked personal questions about my current job and how I do things, but mostly said 'no' to my answers. This lasted 45 minutes. Then, they gave me a timed (2 hour) assessment. It involved reading drawings and answering questions about a blurry drawing in Japanese, calculating monthly and accumulated production volume with graphs, analyzing quotes from 4 suppliers with 7 variables and answering questions, calculating depreciation costs, defining labor costs, calculating product sales prices using financial statements, and then redoing it with new info. It also included calculating takt time, cycle time, and labor rates from a messy table, and organizing data to make a Pareto chart. The assessment itself wasn't hard, just took a lot of time, and they wanted it done between 7pm and 9pm. After I sent it back, I told them I wasn't interested because the job expectations didn't match the salary range.

The interview process involved seven rounds, starting with a phone screen and mostly conducted over Zoom. I met with an HR Analyst, Hiring Manager, HR Director, CEO, VP, and some of my potential counterparts. The final stages of the interviews took place onsite, which made it a bit tricky to coordinate around everyone's travel schedules.

They did a user interview, a medical check, and an HR interview. The questions were standard, covering my references, previous work history, and the government tender process. I received an offer letter within two weeks.
