First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hilltop Holdings.
Vendor Management Analyst
Got contacted by recruiting and set up an interview with the hiring manager. First interview, the hiring manager was late and jumped straight into asking me to solve a current problem in their department, no intro or role overview. Rescheduled a few weeks later, that convo went fine. Then got invited to a second interview, focused on my background/experience, seemed good. But after that, zero contact for a month. All in all, the process felt messy and all over the place, with bad communication and nobody seemed to own the hiring. The job itself sounded cool, but the interview process made me question how things are run internally and if they respect candidates' time.
- What solutions could I offer for their allocation problem?
Project Manager
Had a good introductory call with HR, then interviewed with the hiring manager, which I thought went well. Unfortunately, I never heard back and didn't even receive a rejection email, which is pretty unprofessional to just ghost candidates. At least respect the time we put into interviewing and prepping.
- Do you have knowledge of what PCG is?
Project Management Intern
Got contacted by the recruiter. After the screening, I had a call with the VP of PM. The interview was easy and went well, mostly behavioral with some minor technical questions. Waited a week or two (with a few follow-ups) and unfortunately, they found a better pick.
- Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult individual in a project.
IT Security Analyst
First, there was a recruiter call. Then, a panel interview with the whole team happened. It was informal, with random topics. They questioned my technical loyalty, thinking my interest in auditing/GRC meant I was better suited for a Compliance role. The recruiter was unresponsive, requiring constant follow-up for weeks, delaying the process by a month. Eventually, they closed the position without clear reason. The whole experience felt dysfunctional and like a waste of time, despite dodging a bullet.
- Do you have a favorite Chinese saying or phrase?
